Participating in the Goi Peace Foundation Essay Contest was a deeply personal and transformative experience for me. My essay, "The (Model) UN at Wartime," allowed me to reflect on my tumultuous childhood and the peace that emerged from conflict. Here’s a brief look at my journey.

The Initial Spark

The contest’s theme provided a perfect backdrop to share my story of growing up amidst my parents' bitter divorce and how it shaped my understanding of peace and diplomacy. I was immediately drawn to the opportunity to express my unique perspective.

Crafting the Narrative

Writing this essay meant revisiting challenging moments of my childhood. This painful recollection set the stage for exploring deeper themes of conflict and resolution.

I likened my role in my parents' conflict to that of the UN mediating between warring nations. Just as diplomats work to foster dialogue and understanding, I found myself trying to mend the rift between my parents.

Reflecting on Resolution

Despite the intense battles during my childhood, my parents eventually found common ground. Their journey of self-improvement and mutual respect led to a peaceful coexistence. This showed me that peace is a dynamic process requiring time, effort, and a willingness to change.

Final Thoughts

Writing "The (Model) UN at Wartime" was more than an academic exercise; it was a cathartic experience. It reinforced my belief that peace, whether in our homes or on the global stage, is achievable through patience, dialogue, and mutual respect. This experience inspired me to continue advocating for peace and understanding in all aspects of my life.
